ELMHURST – Zahra Suratwala, an Elmhurst mother, writer, and activist, was endorsed today by the national organization Run for Something (RFS). Suratwala is amongst the first endorsements of the group in 2018.
Run for Something recruits and supports talented, passionate young people who advocate for progressive values now and for the next 30 years, with the ultimate goal of building a progressive bench.
“I’m honored to accept the endorsement of Run for Something,” said Zahra Suratwala. “I decided to launch this campaign in part because I share their belief that more young people need to step up and run for elected office. I’m proud to have their support.”
“These first time candidates all have the heart and hustle that is so important to us at RFS, and we are proud to give them our endorsement,” said Ross Morales Rocketto, co founder of Run for Something. “Put simply, they are the type of people we think the Party needs and the type of candidates who are going to work hard. They are knocking on doors and stepping up to run grassroots, community-led campaigns.”
The RFS endorsement process, which began in October, includes an extensive internal review with background check, staff interview and insight from local state experts. The 61 new candidates are joining 28 previously endorsed 2018 candidates, totaling 89 RFS candidates in 2018 elections. In 2017 RFS officially endorsed 120 candidates. 72 ran in November 2017; nearly half of them won.
