I am a native-born Illinoisan, raised in Mount Prospect, and a resident of Elmhurst with my husband and two children for the past 10 years. I obtained my Masters of Arts degree in English Literature from Loyola University Chicago.
I am passionate about our DuPage communities, having chosen to raise children and start a business here, and I want to keep our district a place where all residents can live as neighbors in prosperity and safety.
With my experience living abroad and negotiating my Muslim American identity here at home, I will give a voice to a broader, more diverse population. As Co-Founder of the I Speak for Myself® book series, I have a long history defending and celebrating religious diversity and political freedom.
As a writer and public speaker who was invited by the U.S. Department of State to travel to Thailand and Cambodia and engage in cross-cultural dialogue, I know that connecting with others starts with listening.
As a professor of English and as a mother, I know firsthand the importance of high academic standards for the next generation.
I bring to the County Board my passion for DuPage’s communities, my empathy for our neighbors, and my ability to be an effective advocate and ally.
Together we will lower property taxes, secure quality of life, and deliver the future that DuPage deserves. Read more about my stance on the issues here.
